aluminaut asked: thank you! i’ve been perusing through your digital collection, your stop motion work (pixelation) is so fucking breathtaking. it reminds me of ken jacob’s experiments looping the same frames over and over almost zoetropically (sp?) to create the persistence of vision. except in jacobs’ work he had a gap between the frames so there was a blinking loop rather than 3 continuous images flashing before our eyes.
anyways, i went to a screening of his work in ny and he showed an image of his wife and children smiling at the camera while on vacation in italy..the image looped between a black frame over and over so it almost moved in space infinitely.. i saw an old professor of mine who never let a cigar leave his lips burst into tears.. the beauty of 3 images looping was overwhelming.. i never thought to look at an image with such nostalgia, loss..and beauty. i never connected to a photograph in a way where it had brought me to tears, and that scared me. it was like i gained a new set of eyes.
i can understand how you may not want to privy such information about your process, but it looks like you’re working with a camera that takes 3 images almost simultaneously? maybe it’s one of those japanese camera’s with a built in flash? either way i love your work, it’s so moving and retro-futuristic. i made a video with a-trak in ny and attempted jacobs’ by looping an image over itself to create its own dimension of motion. the camera trick is in the middle of the video. if you get a chance i’d love your thoughts.
